Bitcoin News Today – Despite the mixed relationship with digital currencies, more firms are still finding their way into the industry. Recently, one of the most successful retailers in the world – Alibaba – unexpectedly entered the world of digital currency by partnering with Lolli – a Bitcoin rewards application. Alibaba is a China-based retailer that counts multinational behemoth Amazon among its closest competitors.
The China-based retailer just entered into a partnership that would allow customers to get a cashback of 5 percent in Bitcoin (BTC) for every purchase. The firm announced the partnership yesterday, during China’s “Singles Day,” or Guanggun Jie – a popular shopping holiday that the Chinese people celebrate. The holiday is reportedly the biggest online shopping day in the world. Yesterday, the platform of the firm recorded $38 billion in sales.

According to a report by CoinDesk, Chinese citizens will not benefit from the Bitcoin-stacking promo. The report revealed that only residents of the United States of America would be able to partake in the Bitcoin-stacking promo. The head of communications at Lolli – Aubrey Strobel – said that the initial announcement was precisely aimed at Chinese-Americans and travelers that participated in the Singles Day.
Alex Adelman – the Co-Founder and CEO of Lolli pointed out the importance of this partnership. He said that the partnership is important both for the firm and for the further adoption of Bitcoin (BTC). In a blog post, he said:
“Our partnership allows our users to earn free Bitcoin on millions of products online every day. Arguably, the most important piece of this partnership is that it supports our mission of connecting the entire world through commerce.”
This partnership represents an enormous U-turn for the China-based e-commerce giant. The firm took a strict stance on BTC payment last month after a clash between Binance, a crypto exchange, and the subsidiary payment firm of Alibaba – Alipay. The clash started after the head of Binance – Changpeng Zhao – elatedly tweeted that Alipay could be used on the new fiat on-ramp of the trading platform. Alipay replied to the tweet, saying “NO, you cannot.”
The payments company released another tweet saying that any and all digital currency payments on the platform would be stopped immediately. However, with the latest development from Alibaba, more crypto initiatives might be coming from the firm.
