Cryptocurrency News Today – It appears that YouTube has launched a crackdown on crypto content on its platform after several channel owners started to raise concerns. YouTube reportedly started the initiative following the launch of a new wave of rules. Since December 23 to the present day, channel owners have reported that the site has deleted individual videos from all crypto channels on the platform. The report adds that some hosts have been warned and given strikes, which has temporarily prevented them from uploading any crypto-related content.
As of December 25, the crackdown has affected many channels. Chris Dunn and Node Investor are among the first set of hosts to report the issue. Chico Crypto, which is notable for its involvement in Cardano’s MMA fight saga was also affected. Others that have been affected include the Crypto Lark, Crypto Tips, Ivan on Tech, and many other channels that have received notices from the site.
YouTube hasn’t given any public statement to confirm reports of a crypto crackdown. Neither has it stated that crypto videos aren’t in line with its rules. This means that users now must read between the lines if they are to deduce which content is targeted. According to Chris Dunn, his videos were taken down on grounds that they were behind the “sale of regulated goods. They also allegedly contained harmful content.”
The wording of the notices issued to has led crypto commentators to agree that YouTube is cracking down ICOs, and referral links, as well as other marketing activity related to cryptocurrency deliberately. Others believe the crackdown is the result of an algorithm overreacting, and that YouTube may ultimately reverse its decisions.
It is safe to assume that the bulk of YouTube hosts are thinking about moving to a more decentralized and uncensorable platform. Platforms like PeerTube, LBRY, DTube, and BitChute. Twitter is planning to make a decentralized media platform. Although this initiative isn’t explicitly focused on video hosting, it is merely an attempt to challenge the heavy-handed content policies.
If YouTube decides to reverse its decisions, there is a chance that it will remain the go-to platform for cryptocurrency video channels. YouTube is the second most visited platform on the web according to Alexa ranking, with 28 billion monthly visitors. Apart from YouTube pages like Google, Twitter, and Facebook have banned crypto ads before rolling back those policies.
