As reported by the Economic Times, India’s Kerala state plans to jump on the blockchain bandwagon to boost the financial system and human resources in the state. In doing so, the state plans to execute some pilot initiatives of the government by establishing a hub of talented individuals in the blockchain space.
Kerala has the highest literacy rate in India and it is of no surprise that the government envisages talented professionals in the field taking up challenges to fulfill schemes using advanced technologies. Shri M Sivasankar, Secretary IT of Kerala, stated that he sees a lot of potential in the state for blockchain experts through an initiative of the government, the Kerala Blockchain Academy. This academy explores and exploits the benefits of the emerging technology for aiding the public through capacity building to promote research, development and entrepreneurship. He further stated that they are planning to train 20,000 people in the field, over a span of two years.
Sivasankar stated in the report:
“We are looking for intelligent use of blockchain in specific domains in the next five years so that its applications can be sustained. Companies that produce solutions based on the technology can sell it as products or services.”
The government wants to leverage the technology to execute pilot schemes in land records, management of human resources, organic food traceability and immunization programs.
