The Electric Coin Company, which is the official developers of Zcash, have released a complete set of Software Development Kits (SDKs) which make it possible to implement shielded transactions on Apple and Android mobile devices.

Zcash is the second most popular privacy cryptocurrency, with a market cap just above USD 450 million. Previously the privacy technology behind Zcash was too prohibitive to use on a mobile device, requiring 2.9 GB of free memory. Mobile wallets for Zcash did exist, but they could only facilitate non-anonymous transactions.

In October 2018 the Sapling upgrade alleviated the memory requirements for shielded transactions, and six months later, the first anonymous mobile device technology for Zcash was released, although only on the testnet.

Now for the first time, Zcash users can send anonymous transactions via mobile devices, and this has the potential to significantly increase the efficacy of Zcash as a privacy coin, and therefore has the potential to increase Zcash adoption and make it more competitive with Monero.
