Bitcoin News Today – Over the past couple of hours, Bitcoin (BTC) has been on a downward trend after it broke below the $7k support mark yesterday. At the time of writing, the price of the digital currency is hovering around the $6,675 mark, after a decrease of about 8 percent from its high of $7,200.

Bitcoin’s Crash Results in $30 Million Liquidation

During the recent downtrend, the price of the digital currency even plunged to as low as $6,580. According to data, the recent down move resulted in long-side liquidations on BitMEX worth $30 million. Other digital currency trading platforms also saw a similar move. Sellers seem to be amassing shorts as the price of the digital currency continues to head south, with the open interest of BitMEX denominated in Bitcoin surging from about 71k Bitcoin to 73k Bitcoin amid the downtrend.

No one can pinpoint what caused this downtrend. However, gold has started to rally while Dow Jones and S&P 500 – the futures of American stock market – have seen a tepid open after a record rally last week. Regardless of the recent sideways trading, many are still solidly behind Bitcoin.

Many Are Still Bullish on Bitcoin

In a tweet, Mac – a prominent digital currency trader – said that the recent price action of the digital currency is likely going to trigger a rally to fresh multi-week highs. According to his chart, a return to the $6,600 range was imminent, and the digital currency is currently trading around that zone. The chart also predicted a subsequent rally of 15 percent to the $7,600 range, which is yet to happen.
