Cryptocurrency News Today – while trading the yuan with Bitcoin has been banned in China, this has not stopped citizens of the countries from talking about the number one digital currency by market cap.
This was made clear on Sunday, May 11, when the CSO of Blockstream, Samson Mow, noted that data from Weibo (popularly called the ‘Chinese Twitter’), BTC was a trending topic. He also added that this is the third time that this has happened over the last two weeks. This report comes as the entire digital asset market awaits Bitcoin’s halving event in the next few days.
Mow shared a screenshot of Weibo’s trending list captured from May 10. According to this screenshot, a search term that mentioned Bitcoin’s price decline was recently the number 13 most popular term on Weibo China’s Twitter. This is notable because over 400 million people actively use the Weibo platform. This shows how excited the Chinese are about Bitcoin. Bitcoin’s popularity in China appears to be tied to an article that was shared by CCTV’s finance column.
CCTV is the biggest television broadcaster in the country and “the state-owned television network in Mainland China.” A former member of China operations told Bitcoin Magazine, that the article from CCTV made mention of BTC’s third halving event and its recent price pump over the $10,000 mark. This article also talked about how Bitcoin outperformed and drew the market forward as we approach the halving and how it was in previous halvings.
Bitcoin may soon receive a similar popularity treatment across the globe, so to say. One interesting mention is the U.S. As we approach the halving event, investors in the west have turned up searching for terms related to Bitcoin more than they have only a few months ago.
According to Google Trends data, search interest from Americans relating to “Bitcoin halving,” what is Bitcoin, and “Buy Bitcoin,” have skyrocketed which is boding well for a bullish narrative before and after the halving. This particular trend is set to continue due to the public awareness brought into the crypto space by investors.
One such one is Paul Tudor Jones. Jones is expected to speak to CNBC today Monday. He is optimistic about BTC. Jones, a Bitcoin proponent, is also expected to talk about cryptocurrencies and the current state of the market. In addition to this, Bitcoin and other Blockchain topics have also been recently mentioned elsewhere particularly in mainstream television programs and shows.
